Mel City Entertainment was founded in 2018 by Jamel Thornton — known throughout the industry simply as Mel City — out of a deep conviction that independent talent deserved the same caliber of representation and infrastructure as anyone signed to a major label or studio.
What started as a music-forward management company quickly evolved into something far more expansive. Recognizing that the boundaries between music, film, sports, and digital media were dissolving, Thornton built MCE into a full-service agency capable of representing talent wherever their careers took them.
Today, MCE operates eight divisions spanning every corner of the entertainment industry — from recording artists and feature film directors to AI talent consultants and esports athletes. The through-line is always the same: elite representation, authentic relationships, and an unwavering commitment to building lasting careers.
Our footprint spans feature film, television, documentary, and music video. Our credits include Paramount+, MTV, BET, Comedy Central, E! Style Network, Nickelodeon, A&E Networks, WarnerMedia, and Dick Clark Productions.
2018
MCE founded in Atlanta by Jamel Thornton. First clients: music artists and production crew.
2020
Expansion into film and TV representation. First DGA-affiliated directors join the roster.
2021
Launch of the in-house production crew. First Def Jam partnership confirmed.
2023
Sports division launched. First athlete-to-entertainment crossover deals executed.
2025
AI division launched with Dr. Imara Oyelowo. AXIOM-1 deployed as first synthetic host.
2026
